AccessEngineering holds successful forum, creating new accessibility resources
AccessEngineering recently held its first forum to develop new resources to increase the participation of people with disabilities in engineering fields. It drew over 40 attendees from across the country, including postsecondary faculty, students with disabilities, disability service providers and professional organization representatives. Discussions focused on strategies for including information on disability, accessibility and universal design into college engineering curriculum. Participants shared successes in these areas and discussed ways to better engage professional organizations. New resources include case studies, Q&As and promising practices that soon will be integrated into the AccessEngineering Knowledge Base.
The National Science Foundation funds AccessEngineering, and Sheryl Burgstahler is Principal Investigator. Partners include faculty from Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering.
