Phase 2:
Rooted In Rights: Got something to say? Work with staff from Rooted in Rights to produce a creative, fully accessible video that advocates for disability rights. You will experience the filmmaking process from start to finish. We will discuss effective storytelling, brainstorm topics, work on story structure, and write scripts. Then, we'll use a simple set of tools to shoot a professional video. You'll learn the basics of free apps and edit your own video. Finally, you'll ensure video accessibility and of course, share them online via social media!
NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmosphereic Administration): NOAA Science Camp offers students and opportunity to dive into marine and atmospheric science with NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Who is NOAA, you may wonder? NOAA scientists study weather, climate, oceans and coasts, and fisheries and uses many marine and aviation tools to do their research. The work that NOAA does informs important policies to protect our coasts and ocean. This workshop will introduce students to earth and ocean sciences through virtual and hands-on activities, emphasizing solutions to real-world problems. Students will also have the opportunity to interact with NOAA scientists to learn more about their research and pathways to related marine careers.
Phase 1 and 2:
Lunch Open Hours: Stop by Zoom Lunch Open Hours if you have any questions or need tech support.
Phase 1:
Making the Most of Makerspaces: Scholars will learn about "Makerspaces," where tools and materials are made available for students to create and build all kinds of things from art projects to engineering devices. Representatives from the University of Washington will talk about how Makerspaces are used, why they are important, and even offer some helpful tips for "making" the most out of these cool new hangout spaces. UW Student Makerspace staff will give us a tour of The Mill and show off the laser cutter in action.
Phase 2:
