Summer Study 2022 - Friday, July 15
Phase 1:
Accessible Data Science: What is data science? How can it be accessible? In this session, we will learn from researchers about what they are doing to make sure that high school students with disabilities have access to data science and explore some accessible charts. You'll have a chance to give them feedback about their technology and how they can make it better.
Phase 1:
Lunch Open Hours: Stop by Zoom Lunch Open Hours if you have any questions or need tech support. This is a great time to ask questions about newsletter articles or images or check-in with staff on anything before the weekend!
Phase 1:
Accessible Technology Demonstrations and ATC Tour: Assistive Technology (AT) can help with organization and planning, reading and writing, access and recreation. But how do you know what AT to choose? Where do you get it? Who is going to pay for it? Did you know that each state has an Assistive Technology program that can help answer those questions? In this session we'll learn what assistive technology and apps college students use and how they use them, and take a virtual tour of the Access Technology Center at the UW.
- Experience new assistive technologies that help with access, organization, note taking, writing and composition.
- Learn from past Scholars what it is like to request an accommodation and what you might expect.
Phase 1:
Play Jackbox Games (optional): Join DO-IT Staff in playing some Jackbox Games! Never played before? Don't worry--just grab a phone or computer, jump on Zoom, and you can play along on screen! These party style games include Fibbage, a game where you make up facts; Bracketeering, a game where you share opinions and more. See you there!
