Summer Study 2021 - Tuesday, July 20
Phase 1:
Advocating for Universal Design of Online Learning: Scholars will learn all about Universal Design (UD) and explore examples of strategies to make online learning more engaging and accessible for everyone. Scholars will share their own experience of going online at school, and share their thoughts about the "20 tips" video or publication. Students will learn how they can constructively advocate for themselves at school, to help make classes more accessible and inclusive for everyone.
Phase 2:
Our Take On Intake: Learn about the intake process for students with disabilities in postsecondary education.
Phase 1:
Microsoft Employee Panel: A panel of Microsoft employees with disabilities will join us to talk about their experiences in college and careers. Hear about what they do and how they "DO-IT." Learn about cool technology for people with disabilities.
Phase 2:
Accessible Technology Demonstrations and ATC Tour: See what assistive technology and apps college students use and how they use them, and tour the Access Technology Center.
- Experience new assistive technologies that help with access, organization, note taking, writing and composition.
- Learn from past Scholars what it is like to request an accommodation and what you might expect.
- Discover resources for increasing accessibility of Microsoft apps and using the built in capabilities of Windows.
Phase 1 and 2:
Snack Box Social: Meet the Pets! (optional): Phase 1 and Phase 2 Scholars are invited to introduce their pets to the group! Participants will also be encouraged to share pet-related stories and memories. Even those without pets are encouraged to join this optional evening activity!
