Interacting with Faculty: In this session you will be meeting college faculty to practice introducing yourself and articulating your needs to them.

Phase 2:

Rooted In Rights: Got something to say? Work with staff from Rooted in Rights to produce a creative, fully accessible video that advocates for disability rights. You will experience the filmmaking process from start to finish. We will discuss effective storytelling, brainstorm topics, work on story structure, and write scripts. Then, we'll use a simple set of tools to shoot a professional video. You'll learn the basics of free apps and edit your own video. Finally, you'll ensure video accessibility and of course, share them online via social media!

Phase 2:

Let's Impress! Developing Your Presentation Skills: Scholars will learn about presenting themselves well during online meetings. During the session, Scholars will hear from Dr. Burgstahler about her experiences related to online meetings, and share their own thoughts about looking professional and interacting in ways that impress others.

Scholars will address the following questions:

  • What is one idea you have about presenting yourself well as a student in an online college class?
  • What image do you want to project to your professor? Would you present yourself differently for different types of meetings? For example, a student work group,  a social gathering with friends, a family reunion, etc.
  • What are particular things to avoid?
  • What are considerations if you were giving a presentation in class?
