Captions make the content in video presentations accessible to individuals who are deaf. They also benefit many other video viewers. Beneficiaries include
- individuals with language processing challenges who benefit from seeing the written word as well as hearing it;
- individuals who benefit from seeing the spelling of technical terms spoken in a video;
- individuals who want to search for the section of a video covering a specific topic (by searching the captions); and
- individuals watching a video in a noisy area (for example, in a classroom where other students are interacting in groups) or quiet environment (for example, in the library).
To hear from many of the beneficiaries of captions, watch the video presentation Captions: Improving Access to Postsecondary Education.
